Program Summary:
Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) engages motivated young adults, ages 18 – 30, to complete impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. Projects include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, historic preservation, and local environmental service projects. ALCC provides opportunities for members to learn about and connect with the environment, issues surrounding conservation, and local Indigenous values.
The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Wind River (ALCC-WR) Office is located on the Wind River Indian Reservation and works with the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative (TBI). Our mission is to serve and enrich the lives of the local tribal and community members of the Wind River Indian Reservation. We are dedicated to empowering Wind River tribal nation’s youth by providing them with the skills, resources, and tools to lead their nations and revitalize their traditional culture. The program sees ecological conservation as inherently connected to the culture and health of the community. The ALCC-WR team will play a vital role in maintaining and revitalizing the ancestral lands of the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone through conservation project work.
Conservation Corps programming began on the Wind River Indian Reservation in 2017 through the Montana Conservation Corps and ran until 2019. The Grand Teton National Park Foundation additionally ran youth conservation corps crews from 2016 to 2019 that served youth on the reservation. This year will be the first year of operation of ALCC-WR.
Position Summary:
The Wind River Field Supervisor’s primary roles are to provide field, social-emotional, and logistical support to our field staff and seasonal crew members. The Supervisor will offer technical assistance and morale support while ensuring program integrity through policy enforcement and positive mentoring. The Field Supervisor will assist with program logistics as well as planning and facilitating crew lead and member training. The position is predominately field-based and requires frequent overnight camping and driving to multiple work sites across the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains region. The Field Supervisor will be one of the first staff responders for crew emergencies and support and will be readily available for trips into the field and comfortable with an ever-shifting work schedule.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions:
Field Support:
– Communicate work plans to Crew Leaders, ensuring that they are prepared and knowledgeable of projects prior to implementation.
– Work with program coordinators and managers to determine and develop project expectations and specifications.
– Manage on-the-ground project quality by providing technical assistance and risk assessment throughout all stages of a project, while enforcing all policies and procedures. This includes regular visits to work sites.
– Provide encouragement, guidelines, and supervision to crew leaders throughout their tenure as well as filling in for Staff Crew Leaders when they are unable to be in the field.
– Help to develop and implement crew leader training including technical work, protocols, leadership, and facilitation skills.
– Assist the Program Coordinator(s) and Program Director in maintaining a clean and efficient base of operations, including maintaining vehicles, trailers, and tools.
– Perceive and effectively communicate environmental and work hazards with the Crew, Crew Leaders, Staff, and Project partners, including risk management while traveling to work sites and working in varied weather conditions.
– Act with compassion and care towards crew members, leaders, and staff.
General Administration and Partnerships:
– Maintain accurate reporting of all necessary information and complete program reports, and project, program, and crew leader evaluations throughout the season.
– Assist with the development and maintenance of partnerships with community and project partners.

Required Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must hold current advanced medical certification (Wilderness First Aid or above) with CPR/AED or be willing to receive certification early in the season.
· Exhibits the ability to effectively work on diverse teams or with a variety of populations, including those in our program and our communities.
· Minimum of 1 year of experience in youth development or relevant conservation field
· Experience with mentoring diverse groups of individuals to achieve common goals.
· Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment.
· The ability to conduct assigned work independently or with minimal supervision.
· Demonstrated technological competency with Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
· Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record
· Must be able to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.
· Experience leading conservation programs, members, or administrative systems.
· Strong skill level in at least one or more of the following areas: rock and timber construction, new trail construction, trail maintenance, chainsaw operation and maintenance, crosscut use and maintenance, hand tool maintenance, fencing, and ecological restoration projects.
· Experience with camping, backpacking, wilderness living and travel, LNT, or outdoor leadership.
Preferred Qualifications or strong desire to grow and learn in the following:
· Experience teaching, facilitation, and team-building experience with diverse groups of people.
· Strong conflict resolution skills.
· Desire to engage with language and cultural aspects of program work.
· Sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and desire to make a positive difference.
· Current B Level certification on Chainsaw and/or crosscut based on current USFS standards.
· Current or recent herbicide applicator or supervisor license OR direct experience working with and applying herbicides in the field.
