Job Title: Senior Software Engineer
Location: Remote (Eastern Time Zone overlap required)
Duration: Mid-June to Mid-December 2025 (potential for extension)
Rate: CAD 80/hr (allocated budget)Job Description:Peoples Bank of Canada, a digital-focused financial institution, is actively seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to join their innovative team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in a large-scale, multi-year finance modernization initiative focused on automating financial processes, reducing operational risk, and establishing a centralized data platform across core business areas including Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, Accounting, and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A).This role involves working closely with fintech partners and internal teams to build secure, scalable, and highly reliable microservices and APIs. The engineer will contribute significantly to Peoples Bank’s ongoing digital transformation and open banking strategies, helping to deliver seamless integrations and innovative solutions in banking technology.Responsibilities:

• Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-native microservices and APIs using Java (17.x/21.x), Spring Boot, and modern frameworks.
• Utilize Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to provision and manage AWS resources, including EKS, API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, and related cloud services.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (including Product Owners, QA, DevOps, Project Managers, and senior leadership) to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
• Implement best practices for security (OAuth2, OIDC, JWT), reliability, scalability, and compliance (PCI DSS, OSFI) in all systems.
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, incident management, and continuous improvement processes.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and support to junior team members as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven expertise in Java (17.x/21.x), Spring Boot, microservices, and related modern backend frameworks.
• Hands-on experience in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for AWS deployments (EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, etc.).
• Strong understanding of API development standards (REST, OpenAPI 3.x, gRPC, GraphQL).
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, CI/CD processes (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), containerization (Docker), and observability tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Splunk, Grafana).
• Experience working in financial services, banking, fintech, or a similarly regulated environment is strongly preferred.
