With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.Role description:The General Accounting Specialist role is within the General Ledger Accounting team based in Toronto Canada and is part of the wider Arcadis Global Onshore and Accounting Finance community.This role will be part of the team responsible for standardized financial reporting, implementing, and maintaining an effective and efficient framework of operational general ledger accounting, treasury function, and statutory compliance with established company policies, generally accepted accounting principles, and local regulations.Working in the General Accounting team, the role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting close activities for all Canadian entities that ultimately drive financial information and reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis. This is a critical role within the accounting & finance team that works closely with GL, AP, Collections, Billing, Payroll, the business lines, and global treasury teams – to monitor, accurately account for, and forecast all cash activities.The General Accounting Specialist reports to an Accounting Manager / Treasury Manager.Role accountabilities:The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Oversee cash flow for all Canada operations.
- Ensure timely and accurate cash postings, refund processing, account reconciliations, and daily cash reporting.
- Initiate daily wire transfers and AR adjustments.
- Prepare accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly cash balances for reporting to global parents.
- Prepare weekly cash forecasts
- Track and report on all outstanding bonds, escrow accounts, and bank guarantees.
- Manage Bank of America relationship to mitigate risk of fraud, update documentation, fulfill audit requirements, track bank fees, etc.
- Develop and maintain global cash flow forecasts, evaluate and recommend intercompany settlements to support global operations
- Track and maintain debt compliance in accordance with agreements
- Engage with various levels of banking representatives and internal business partners from Accounting, Tax, Legal, and Finance
- Open, close, and maintain bank accounts and banking services
- Perform regular reviews of legally authorized signers and bank portal users
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies and procedures
- Contribute to the execution of departmental projects and goals designed to increase operational efficiencies and strengthen the control environment (ie: automation, optimization, system, and bank product/service implementations)
- Perform detailed review, analysis, and reconciliations of general ledger accounts and complex journal entries.
- Cross-train with other accounting staff to provide support when needed
- Assist with year-end Audits.
- A key player in the ERP Oracle migration project.
Qualifications & Experience:The candidate should have:Required qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting/Finance preferably with a recognized professional accounting qualification (Canadian CPA or equivalent)
- Previous experience with financial reporting and auditing
- Previous Treasury and/or Banking experience preferred. Must have general accounting, cash management, and banking knowledge.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written
- Strong analytical and investigative skills
- Knowledge and experience in an international and multi-currency environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oracle, BST, OneStream ERP systems, and Excel high proficiency experience an advantage

The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position.
